DAVID, We Look Up To You
When no one else sees, God has already chosen you.
Saturday morning. As we like to do, we started the day without any rush. I like waking up early, even on weekends, and heading straight to my home office. It’s my moment with God. Sometimes I write, other times I just sit in silence. Later, Emil and Levi wake up. They pass by my office, say good morning, and give me a kiss. Emil heads to the kitchen for coffee. Levi jumps around, brushing his teeth while humming whatever melody pops into his head. He loves playing with the keyboard, sometimes something beautiful comes out. A note, a chord, a seed.
That morning, around 10 a.m., I was finishing the structure of a new project. I was happy. That moment represented quiet progress in my personal journey: Perception – Decision – Action. And then, from the background, I noticed something different. A new song was playing. I paused to listen. It was about King David. The chorus caught me instantly… but I decided to wait before listening to it all.
When a Song Becomes a Mirror
Days later, Emil finished the song. I listened to it alone, attentively. I was deeply moved. Because those words hit something deep inside. Yes, the song was about David. But it was also about me. About those who have faced invisible giants. About those who’ve had to choose between doing and being. About those who’ve had to own their mistakes and keep going, no crown, just a surrendered heart.
David trusted. David worshiped. David wasn’t afraid to be vulnerable. And that’s what moved me. It wasn’t his throne that inspired me. It was his surrender. His courage to be whole before God.
What God sees when He looks at the heart
The lyrics say: “David, David, shepherd boy so small…” That’s the mystery. God’s choices usually start in the most unlikely places. David was the forgotten one. The one not called. The one overlooked by his own father. But God saw him. And He chose him.
“Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7)
That verse echoed in me. Because I’ve learned that what holds us back isn’t what we lack on the outside, it’s what we haven’t yet allowed to be born on the inside.
A legacy that outlives its time
David didn’t live for his own generation. He lived as a root. The promise came from him but wasn’t fulfilled in him. He was the seed in the lineage that would one day bring Jesus. And that truth struck me deeply.
Today, my life is anchored in one mission: to leave a legacy for Levi. I know it’s not about me. I know I’m just building a foundation so he can go further. My legacy is not success. It’s love. It’s a sincere heart. It’s a surrendered life. Everything that once paralyzed me ends with me. Levi already carries a new story.
Songs that become prayers
“You were our King, our King so great…”
But what moves me is not the king, it’s the boy. The sound of the harp in the fields. The heart that knew exactly where to hide: in God.
“David, David, slayed the giant tall…”
We all have giants. But the sling that strikes true is the one moved by trust, not by technique.
Each verse of this song has become a prayer to me. It reminds me I don’t need to prove anything to be chosen. God already sees what He Himself planted in me. And that’s enough.
Be the beginning of something new
Today, our family writes a different story. It’s not perfect. But it’s real. Surrendered. Our soundtrack is made of spontaneous chords, honored silences, and melodies born in the middle of ordinary life. We choose to walk with God, even when the road is narrow.
And that’s what this song invites us to do: to be courageous enough to become who God called us to be, even if we’re still in the field, far from the eyes of the world. Because He already sees us. And that changes everything.
